Philip Connaughton (Choreographer)
Philip Connaughton is a choreographer and performer from Dublin. He trained at the Rambert School of Contemporary Dance in London. In 2013 he made his first piece, Mortuus Est Philippus for Dublin Dance Festival. In 2014, he formed Company Philip Connaughton and made Tardigrade which won best design in the Tiger Dublin Fringe Awards. Following that in 2015 he created Whack!! which toured extensively throughout Ireland and France, and was performed at MOMA NYC in September 2016. He created Extraterrestrial Events, which previewed in Paris before it’s premiere at DDF 2017. ASSISTED SOLO was made for Dublin Fringe Festival 2018. Following that Mamafesta Memorialising was created for the Festival Question de Danse at Klap- maison pour la danse in Marseille, before it’s Irish premiere at Cork Opera House. In 2019 he received an Irish Times Theatre Award for his work on Rough Magic’s Much Ado About Nothing. Most recently he’s been working with visual artist Marie Brett on a new work Yes, but do you Care? which has just been accepted as part of IMMA’s national collection.
Also working in theatre and opera, Philip’s credits include The Threepenny Opera (The Gate Theatre -Dublin Theatre Festival), Noel Coward’s The Vortex (The Gate Theatre), Der Vampyr, Faust (The Everyman Theatre), The Bloody Irish (PBS TV, America), Elevator, I'm Your Man, RIOT, and SHIT (THISISPOPBABY). Annie, The Wizard of Oz , The Cork Proms (Cork Opera House), Much Ado About Nothing (Rough Magic-Kilkenny Arts Fest.).
Philip is associate artist of THISISPOPBABY, a Project Arts Centre Resident Artist and is a Platform 31 artist representing Dublin City Council.
